LONDON, April 28 - Former Formula One champion Damon Hill was elected president of the British Racing Drivers' Club, owners of British Grand Prix circuit Silverstone, on Friday.

The 1996 world champion with Williams succeeds triple world champion Jackie Stewart, who is standing down after six often turbulent years at the helm of a club founded in 1928.

Hill's immediate challenge will be to oversee the redevelopment of Silverstone to secure the grand prix's future beyond 2009 after previous proposals met with grass-roots resistance.
