Beijing haunted by hazardous air pollution (Xinhua) Updated: 2006-04-09 17:02
Floating dust coming from North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
continued to haunt the national capital Beijing on Sunday, bringing hazardous
air pollution to local residents.
Meteorologists warned local people to stay at home and shut up windows to
prevent indoor air pollution.
The content of particulate matter in the air reached 500 microgramme per
cubic meter in every hour, according to local environment monitoring stations.
Beijing's environmental protection authorities have intensified their efforts
to clear up local streets with water to reduce the influence and harm of
floating dust on the life and health of local residents.
It will become clear Sunday night and Monday, with daytime temperature rising
to 23 degrees Celsius, according to local meteorological
station.
