"Yes, hopefully it will get better," he says. "It would not be good if people
from all over the world saw Beijing as being very dirty."
There's one measure though, that car-owning Beijingers may find hard to
swallow: car restrictions.
A key proposal is to force hundreds of thousands of drivers to leave their
cars at home for a two-month period starting before the opening ceremony, and
ending with the close of the Paralympics.
For most of this time, about only half of all projected cars will be allowed
on the roads. During the Games itself, the number will be slashed to less than a
third.
