ASUNCION, March 21 - Former South American champions Olimpia have been given a 30-day home ban after missile throwing fans forced their game with Sportivo Luqueno to be abandoned on Sunday.

Referee Carlos Torres called the Paraguayan championship game off in the 85th minute after assorted missiles, including bottles and lumps of ice, rained on to the field, hitting two Luqueno players.

A Paraguayan Football Association (APF) official said the ban was provisional and a final decision would be made based on the referee's report. Luqueno were winning 2-1 at the time.

Two weeks earlier, Olimpia's derby with Cerro Porteno was delayed by 10 minutes as fans throw objects on to the field at the Defenders of the Chaco stadium. There were also clashes outside the ground between Olimpia fans and police.

The APF said club presidents would meet Thursday to discuss the increase in violence at domestic games, which generally attract only a few hundred fans.

Olimpia have won the South American Libertadores Cup three times but financial problems have led to a slump in the last two years, when they have not qualified for the competition.
