Underground comedian rises
(China Daily)
Updated: 2009-10-22 10:43 Up-and-coming comedian Huang Bo tickles viewers' funny bones with his new role as an inventor in Radish Warrior (Juejiang Luobo), which will premiere tomorrow. In the film, which is inspired by a real criminal case, Huang plays a 50-year-old amateur inventor who digs a tunnel to a thief's house to get his stolen money back. The film was harshly criticized as "terribly lame" at the recently concluded Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival. But Huang calls for audiences to be more tolerant of director Tian Meng's first film. Huang believes new directors need more encouragement and support. Although working with new directors is risky, he wouldn't pass up the chance to play an interesting character, he says. Huang rose to fame for his performance as a stupid thief in the black comedy Crazy Stone (Fengkuangde Shitou) in 2006. The film also stars actress Huang Yi and TV host Du Haitao. |
