Survivalist films in Hainan

Discovery Channel's Man vs. Wild host Bear Grylls.

British adventurer Bear Grylls has just finished his journey to Hainan island for the Discovery Channel show Man vs. Wild.

Known as a tropical tourism destination, Hainan is also host to many natural perils. Grylls had to survive the jungle and marshland, dealing with bugs, cobras and the typhoon that pummeled the island earlier this month. He had to eat rats, bats and bamboo to survive.

The former Special Air Service officer is a renowned host of Man vs. Wild.

The show currently airs on the Discovery Channel block on 27 provincial or municipal TV stations in China. The China episode will premiere during Spring Festival next year.

The Man vs. Wild series - filmed in various locations around the word, including the Americas, Europe, Australia and Africa - has won a loyal global following by showing unexplored locations and outdoor survival techniques.
