New series to mark Oct 1

China's small screen is gearing up for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, with a series of revolution-themed dramas.

Liberation (Jie Fang), a 50-episode TV series on the Civil War between the Communists and Nationalists from 1945 to 49, will be shown on CCTV-1 every night, with the first episode going on air this Sunday.

Tang Guoqiang (pictured), known for playing Mao Zedong in many films and TV series, does it again and also co-directs the show.

Other highlights include Tea House (Cha Guan), a TV drama adapted from famous writer Lao She's play. The 39-episode TV series captures the social changes in China from imperial times to the beginning of the Civil War in 1945.
