Light show begins youth festival

A light show, tracing the history and achievements of the University of Cambridge, opened the second China International Youth Arts Festival, on Friday.

Other institutions participating in the fortnight-long event, organized by the Ministry of Culture, are Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Ewha University in Seoul, New England Conservatory of the United States, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and Peking and Tsinghua universities and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Young Chinese vocalists will give two concerts to pay tribute to their masters, Guo Shuzhen and Jin Tielin, both of whom are renowned singers and vocal coaches in China.

The closing show will feature Mozart's opera, The Marriage of Figaro, performed by the Shanghai Opera House. The baton will be held by 80-year-old female conductor, Zheng Xiaoying.
