Rob Pattinson hits Italy and the doubtful rumour

"Twilight" star Robert Pattinson is in Italy after a rousing week at the Cannes Film Festival, where a report that he “bedded” a young blonde seem increasingly doubtful.

He’s getting down to work, shooting the Volturi vampire scenes for "Twilight" sequel “New Moon,” with Kristen Stewart, Ashley Green, Michael Sheen, Dakota Fanning and other cast members. But werewolf hunk Taylor Lautner is taking a break back in Los Angeles.

During the festivities, Rob reportedly became smitten by a woman named, Erika Dutra, who was described only as “a Los Angeles native,” according to tabloid weekly Life & Style magazine. Outside of her encounter with Pattinson, Dutra has a very low profile -- make that no profile -- on the web.

The pair were introduced at the post-party for the AmFar Cinema Against AIDS bash and spent the entire evening “smooching,” before leaving together, the magazine said. The story was accompanied by a photo of Rob with his arm around a blonde identified as Erika, who is reportedly a friend of actor Emile Hirsch (“Taking Woodstock,” “Milk”)

Oddly, only Life & Style had the story at an event that was thronging with media, and many bloggers doubt its veracity. The photo of Rob and Erika together was supposedly taken the night before on the terrace of the Hotel du Cap.
