Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Britney Spears and Rihanna have all been nominated for a People's Choice Award.
The 35th annual ceremony - which will be held on January 7 - celebrates the previous year's favourite film, TV and music stars, and winners are voted for by the public.
Christian Bale, Brad Pitt and Mark Wahlberg are all nominated in the Favourite Leading Man category, while Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson and Queen Latifah are in the running for Favourite Leading Lady.
Late Australian actor Heath Ledger - strongly tipped for a posthumous Oscar - is nominated for Best On-Screen Match-Up for his role as The Joker in 'The Dark Knight' alongside co-star Christian Bale, who played Batman. The film is also nominated in the new Favourite Cast category.
Other categories introduced for the 2009 ceremony are Favourite Superhero, Favourite TV Drama Diva, Favourite Star Under 35 and Favourite Scene-Stealing Guest Star - which pop singer Britney Spears is nominated for following her appearance in US TV show 'How I Met Your Mother'.
Rihanna dominates in the music categories, with three nominations including Favourite Female Singer.
Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Coldplay and Carrie Underwood all have two nominations each.
In the comedy section Steve Carell, Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are nominated for Favourite Funny Male Star, while Ellen DeGeneres, Tina Fey and Whoopi Goldberg are nominated for favourite Funny Female Star.
The awards will take place in Los Angeles and will be hosted by Queen Latifah.
