Paramount Vantage is closing in on domestic rights to "Mary Queen of Scots," starring Scarlett Johansson as the ill-fated 16th century monarch. Terms are still being finalized. Phillip Noyce ("Catch a Fire") will direct. Johansson has been attached to the project since September 2006. It had a tentative start date of late summer 2007, but the actress ended up playing Henry VIII's sister-in-law in "The Other Boleyn Girl," which Columbia will release next February. Mary Queen of Scots had an antagonistic relationship with her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I of England, and was eventually beheaded after being convicted of treason. Samantha Morton played Mary in last year's movie "Elizabeth: The Golden Age." |
