Renee Zellweger is in talks to star in a comedy based on a story actor George Hamilton once told about his childhood.

My One and Only follows glamorous mum Anne Deveraux as she drives along the eastern coast of the US searching for a rich man to pay for a new life for her and her two sons.

Hamilton, 68, originally related the true story to talkshow host Merv Griffin and will act as an executive producer on the project.

The 1950s-set movie, a co-production of Raygun Prods, Artfire Films and Merv Griffin Entertainment, will be directed by Richard Loncraine from a script by Charlie Peters.

Filming is scheduled to begin in April.
