Murdered actress/filmmaker Adrienne Shelly's romantic comedy "Waitress" won the narrative feature competition award at the 9th annual Sarasota (Fla.) Film Festival Saturday.

The film, which stars Keri Russell, opens May 2 via Fox Searchlight. Shelly wrote and directed the film.

She was murdered in New York last year by a construction worker who tried to make it look like a suicide.

The award carries a $5,000 cash prize.
