Longmen Grottoes becomes ‘New Chinese Cultural Tourism Landmark’

The Responsible China • 2012 Annual Selection of People’s Network awards ceremony was held at People’s Daily on Jan 10, 2013. Longmen Grottoes stood out from the first batch of new Chinese cultural tourism landmarks and was titled a “New Chinese Cultural Tourism Landmark” and a “First Batch of Cultural Tourism Model”.
The Responsible China • 2012 Annual Selection of People’s Network activity started on Dec 15, 2012, and ended on Jan 5, 2013. The “New Chinese Cultural Tourism Landmark” recognition was supported by the China Tourism Academy and co-hosted by the Chinese Culture Promotion Society and People’s Network. The evaluation process started with online voting, which weighted 30 percent of the whole process. Voting was followed by a review from a group of experts from relevant ministries and commissions for central and cultural tourism.
Longmen Grottoes being named “New Chinese Cultural Tourism Landmark” is quite meaningful to promoting the combination of cultural heritage protection and economic and social development. Culture and tourism will be widely and deeply integrated and will take on an appearance of mutual promotion.
