The Conceptual Model for Smart TV, proposed by the Industrial and Informational Electronic Industry Standardization Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of PRC, gained supports from representatives of Europe, the United States, Japan and Korea at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) TC100 meeting held in Dallas, USA.

In accordance with the results of the meeting, an international standardization of the IEC project was launched together with a working team. Fan Kefeng, vice-secretary general of the Industrial & Informational Electronic Industry Standardization Research Institute, was appointed the leader of the team.

Fan Kefeng, on behalf of China, brought up the standard for an Image Quality Test for a 3D TV in 2011. The IEC TC100 this time appointed Fan as the union leader of the 3D technology international standard working group.

The fact that a Chinese leader was chosen for both digital TV and 3D technology international standardized working groups marks China's transformation into a leading role in the world's standard-setting of the new generation of digital TV.

Yao Jingping, secretary-general of the Zhongguancun Alliance for Digital TV Industrial Technology Innovation, said that the alliance will recommend experienced experts to the TC100 Secretariat of China and the National Standardization Management Committee. More experts will also be deployed to join the two working groups.
