Xi'an, SHAANXI - Shaanxi Provincial Women's Federation and Shaanxi Ageing Development Foundation jointly allocated 120,000 yuan ($18,563) to subsidize the ageing "March 8 Banner" winners who are in need of help prior to the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The 120 recipients are those in their senior ages and having difficulties in life due to some incidents, family changes and poor health conditions.

The subsidies were granted to 120 aged national or provincial March 8 Banner winners. Each got 1,000 yuan. Last year, the federation and the foundation also provided help to 120 March 8 Banner winners, bringing the total number of benefited people to 240.

"The provincial women's federation aims to help these senior women solve their difficulties in life," said Liu Lige, chairwomen of the provincial women's federation, at an event themed on "showing gratitude to the Party and helping the aged people".

"We hope this is either a kind of warmth to them or an award to their selfless contributions to the society," Liu said.

At the event, Wang Wei, deputy chairwomen of the Standing Committee of Shaanxi Provincial People's Congress, said, "The event aims to provide an opportunity for the aged March 8 Banner winners to recall their revolutionary history, sing revolutionary songs and show gratitude to the Party and for the foundation and women's federation to provide substantial help to these old women in need of help."
