Dalian to invest 18 b in software industry

Dalian plans to invest 18 billion yuan in a new “software belt” for the city’s software industry and information technology (IT) educational facilities in the next three to five years, city officials said at a press conference Wednesday.

The software belt, with a total planned area of 150 square kilometers, is expected to attract as many as 1,000 companies create 200, 000 jobs.

Officials also announced at the news conference in Dalian that the ninth China International Software and Information Service Fair will be held June 16 to June 19 in the port city. With a theme of “Green IT, Smart Applications”, the event will focus on green development of the global information industry, smart applications in software technology and upgrades in the information industry.

More than 700 businesses from China, the United States and neighboring countries will attend the event. IT giants such as Microsoft and Intel will hold industry forums during the fair, organizers said.

Business talks for seeking potential business opportunities between Chinese and foreign companies are scheduled. A major recruitment fair scheduled to open on June 18 is expected to offer about 1,000 IT and manufacturing jobs.
