Fund to turn research fruits into hot products

CHENGDU - The Chengdu High-tech zone in this capital of Southwest China’s Sichuan province will set up a special fund turning fruits of scientific research into marketable products, according to a forum held in the city on Thursday.

Representatives of the zone said in the Technology, Finance and Independent Innovation Forum that the fund was aimed at encouraging scientific and technological personnel to churn out more marketable products.

The Chengdu Hi-tech Zone is an important gathering place for high-tech industries in Sichuan. It is strong in integrated circuits, software, communications, optoelectronics, terminal manufacturers, biomedical, precision machinery, and other characteristics industrial clusters.

In 2010, its comprehensive economic indices ranked 4th among all national high-tech zones in China.

The Technology, Finance and Independent Innovation Forum was sponsored by the Torch Center of the Ministry of Science and Chengdu Hi-tech Zone.
