Chaohu: Bantang Hot Spring Resort

At the foot of the Tangshan Mountain, six kilometers northeast of Chaohu, lies Bantang Hot Spring Resort, a scenic spot famous for recuperation, rehabilitation, vacation and sightseeing facilities.

Its unique charm has attracted people from all over the country. It is one of the favorite places of tourists. According to the Book of Sui - Geography: Xiang’an (today’s Xiang’an town of Wuwei county, divided from ancient Juchao), Banyang Mountain is home to the Tangchi springs. The two largest springs are less than one kilometer from each other. One is hot, and the other is cold. In the place where they meet, half the water is cold and half is hot. People call them Bantang (literally “semi hot spring”).

Where the cold and hot water of Bantang springs converge, the water is clean and clear. The temperature from the ground is usually about 55 degrees Celsius. The water contains more than 30 wholesome elements. According to a report from a national scientific research institution, Bantang produces both bathing hot springs and drinking mineral springs. Its grade is high and quality is good, and it is on a par with world’s top drinking mineral water resources. Some say the spring water has a curative effect for more than 50 diseases.

In recent years, the resort has built an open-air hot spring swimming pool, a tennis court, a bowling alley, a gym, a golf course and other recreational facilities. Recently, 10 health spas, resorts and hotels jointly established the Bantang Hot Spring Resort Reception Center. The area has more than 2,000 beds and accommodates more than 200 meeting attendants and more than 3,000 diners.

Bantang Hot Spring Resort is adjacent to the new Hefei-Chaohu-Wuhu Expressway. Chaohan Highway runs through the area from the south. Every day, dozens of buses travel to Hefei, Nanjing, Wuhu, Maanshan, Hexian and Hanshan and shuttle between Chaocheng and Bantang.
