Environment-conscious visitors to the Chengdu Hi-tech Zone in Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan province, are given a pleasant surprise, for they can rent bicycles in different parts of the zone to reduce carbon footsteps.
The zone has recently opened four bicycle rental sites with 100 bicycles, and plans to open another 36 ones with 1,500 bicycles next year.
Cyclists can use bicycles free of charge if they keep them for only one hour. They have to pay only 1.5 yuan if they keep bicycles for two hours.
They can rent a bicycle in one site and return in another, according to Tang Hua, deputy chief of the zone's administrative committee.
