SHANGHAI – The mobile computer manufacturer Psion introduced its newest PDA device Wednesday at a gathering of key company executives, business partners and national dignitaries.

"We're excited to launch our latest product in China, the world's second largest economy, where mobile computers help run many of the most demanding logistical operations and where manufacturing, exports, transport and shipping dominate," said John Conoley, Chief Executive Officer of Psion.

The Psion EP10 is a PDA device rooted in the company's Omnii product platform that offers high performance, extensive features, communications capability and durability. It is aimed at a new market segment for Psion - business users who require a device more functional and rugged than a typical consumer smartphone. The EP10 is well-suited to companies in retail, transportation, professional services, field services and field sales.

Psion has long played a pioneering role in mobile computing. In 1980, it invented the PDA. Earlier this year, it launched the Omnii platform to bring products to the market faster. The Omnii platform helped Psion reduce the two-year development cycle of the EP10 by more than a third.

The Psion EP10 will hit the market in April 2011 and be distributed throughout the US, Europe and Asia.
