China's leading fishery enterprise Dalian Zhangzidao Fishery Group and giant US-based retailer Walmart founded a seafood supply base on Thursday in Zhangzidao Island of Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning province.

According to the cooperation agreement, the sea foods will be delivered directly from the base to Walmart stores in China.

"It not only reduces intermediate links in circulation but also guarantees the products' quality," said Flint Zhu, a senior manager with Walmart China Investment Co Ltd.

The base covers a sea area of about 667 sq km around Zhangzidao Island in the Yellow Sea, 56 nautical miles away from Dalian.

Zhangzidao Island is called the "Pearl of the Yellow Sea". It is located at 39 degrees north latitude, the most suitable area for the growth of precious sea foods. Abalone, trepang, sea urchin, and scallop grown near the island are viewed as top-class sea foods.

Wu Hougang, president of Zhangzidao Fishery, said the company has been taking measures to protect the environment of its total 1,500 sq km-sea farm area and guarantee the quality of its products, which are now selling in a dozen countries and regions.

The cooperation between Zhangzidao Fishery and Walmart is expected to help customers enjoy high-quality sea foods with better prices.
