US Consulate General in Chengdu 25th anniversary

The US Consulate General in Chengdu, Southwest China’s Sichuan province celebrated the 25th anniversary of its founding on Friday.

Attending the celebration, US Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman said the consulate general had contributed greatly to the friendly exchanges between Southwest China and the United States.

The consulate general was set up in 1985 with six US officials and nearly 20 local employees. Now it has 130 staff members, about 100 of whom are locals.

It has sections, such as economy, visa and information and culture, which promote trade relations, education and cultural exchanges as well as agricultural cooperation between Southwest China and the United States.
