ASEAN Agriculture New Variety and Seed Industry Forum was held on October 11, in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province.

Wang Jianhua, Deputy Director General of Department of Science and Technology of Yunnan province, said the cultivation of agriculture new varieties and seed industry in Yunnan has formed rice, sugarcane,flower, tobacco, medicinal herbs, fruit tree, plantation and other categories of germplasm resources development. In terms of food crops, rice, corn, wheat, potato, rape and other varieties, which were selected and bred based on Yunnan characteristic biological resources account for 30% of Yunan's approved new varieties of crops.

Since November 2, 2002, the Sino-ASEAN cooperation on agriculture has entered a new stage with all round development and has obtained outstanding achievements in agricultural human resources development, agricultural scientific and technological exchanges, demonstration and exention, and agricultural trade promotion.
