Known as the "Bone of Sichuan Food", Sichuan pickles are exported to more than 40 countries and regions in the world.

Meishan, a major production base of Sichuan pickles, boasts of 68 precessing enterprises, generating 4 billion yuan (US$588 million) in annual income.

Pickles from the city have found their way on tables of athletes competing in the Beijing Olympics and of deputies to major national meetings such as the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

According to Jiang Renfu, secretary of the Meishan municipal Party committee, his city will utilize the "Sichuan Pickle" as its own brand and turn the Dongpo District into a comprehensive pickle industrial park with an annual processing capacity of 600,000 tons and an annual income over 5 billion yuan (US$740 million) within three or five years.
