Festival commemorates Guan Gong

A Guan Gong cultural festival will kick off in Yuncheng city of North China's Shanxi province on Sept 13.

Guan is a reverent term of address for Guan Yu, a general in the period of the Three Kingdoms (AD220-280).

Known for his valor and loyalty, Guan is highly respected by Chinese businessmen across the world, with his statue can be found in a lot of shops and restaurants owned by Chinese.

Since 1990, the annual festival has been held in the city’s Xiezhou county where Guan Yu was born, and where the country’s largest and best preserved temple of Guan Gong is located. Businessmen from both home and abroad flock to the temple every year to pay tribute, in the hope of securing peace of mind and a flourishing business.
