Germany and China campaign launched in Wuhan

Updated: 2009-09-22 19:44 WUHAN: "Germany and China - Moving Ahead Together", a three-year campaign to promote Germany in China, made its fifth stop in Wuhan yesterday (Sept.21) to the melodious notes of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's A Midsummer Night's Dream. German Ambassador Dr Michael Friedrich Wilhelm Schaefer attended the press conference and Sino-German concert together with Tian Chengzhong, vice governor of Hubei. They give full credit to the friendship and cooperation in trade, technology, environmental protection, urban construction and culture to the Chinese and German people. Under the joint patronage of federal President Horst Koehler and Chinese President Hu Jintao, the three-year campaign highlights the mutual commitment to partnership and understanding between Germany and China, with the first four stops of the campaign in Nanjing, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shenyang. The campaign is coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Wuhan is the only stop of the campaign in central China and will integrate a lot of Hubei elements. In Hubei, known as the province of a thousand lakes, experts will gather on the coast of East Lake to talk about the relationship between people, water and environment. The Environmental-friendly Society and Test Zone of Coordinated Reform in Wuhan Metropolitan Area, Hubei government and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold a Development Summit Forum to bring together high-ranking officers, as well as experts from both China and Germany, to conduct a joint reflection on the issue of sustainable development. |
