Over 1,200 enterprises and delegations from 20 countries and regions will be showing off their leather goods at the Shanghai Pudong New International Expo Center.

More exhibitors than expected will be coming to the International Leather Show scheduled to open on September 2, despite the global recession, said Yang Li, a spokeswoman with the China Leather Industry Association.

"The show will stimulate the world's leather industry, enabling difficult enterprises to know more about the market at home and abroad," said Yang, adding due to the financial crisis, China has become a key market for foreign businesses.

Yang said purchasers from southeast Asia, eastern Europe and other regions have been invited, with nations like Columbia, the Netherlands and Eritrea sending delegations to the show.

Organizers said the show offers a platform for business talks between exhibitors and purchasers and offers many seminars on leather technology and new products.

The three-day event will display various kinds of leather garments, suitcases, shoes and other products in a 57,500 square-meter area. The association has organized domestic buyers chosen from the country's 1,000 department stores to attend.
