By Hu Meidong and Liu Xintian (China Daily Fujian Bureau )
Updated: 2009-08-17 18:13 Fujian vice governor Chen Hua recently led a delegation to visit Taiwan dignitaries, including chairman of the KMT Party Wu Poh-hsiung, honorary chairman Lian Chan and vice chairman Lin Feng-cheng, in order to discuss development in West Strait construction and preferential policies to Taiwan. West Strait construction is now at a new start point and Fujian is faced with great opportunity, according to Chen, adding she hopes Fujian and Taiwan can cooperate further and gain mutual benefits. Ten preferential policies received warm reaction in Taiwan industrial and commercial circles, with great interest shown in the Fuzhou (Pingtan) comprehensive testing area, cross-strait education cooperation testing area and 20 engineering projects open to Taiwan, Chen said. When introducing Fujian’s protection on Taiwan-related cultural relics, Chen pointed out the thousands of Taiwan-related cultural relics in Fujian. She suggested Fujian and Taiwan join efforts to have Goddess Matsu, southern music and red brick buildings recognized with World Cultural Heritage status. Wu, Lian and Lin all showed their concern regarding West Strait economic zone construction, saying Fujian and Taiwan share a close relationship in consanguinity, culture and social customs. They hope Fujian will strengthen contact with Taiwan and cooperate in areas such as economy and trade, culture and tourism, working toward peaceful development of Taiwan and the mainland. |
