Fujian to regulate construction material market
By Hu Meidong and Tong Hao (China Daily Fujian Bureau)
Updated: 2009-08-13 13:07 Fujian will take intensive actions to examine and regulate the province’s construction material market from August 12 to October 10, in an effort to ensure the quality of buildings and protect the interests of customers. The actions are mainly aimed at local markets, building sites and enterprises. Markets that sell unqualified construction materials will be closed, building sites using below standard materials will be punished and enterprises producing fake products will have their power supply shut down. Other measures will include eliminating enterprises lacking in heavy pollution-cutting technology. Materials like steel products, cement, ceramic tiles and electrical appliances will be focused on during the examination. Indoor decoration materials especially, including wooden furniture, paint and timber floorboards, will be strictly examined to ensure pollutants released by these materials are within the acceptance limits. Illegal markets and enterprises and unqualified products detected during the examination will be blacklisted to warn customers. The Fujian Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision (BQTS), the Administration for Industry and Commerce of Fujian (AICF) and another six local government departments will participate in the examination. Customers can report illegal markets and enterprises and unqualified products by phone or online, and will receive certain rewards for effective reports. Consultation activities will also be held in Fujian’s major construction material markets to receive inquires and reports from customers on the spot, with technicians on hand to examine purchased products. Currently, the condition of the construction material market in Fujian is not satisfactory, according to Xie Peimin, an ACIF inspector. “Pass rates of certain electrical appliances were merely 50 percent during a previous examination,” he said. The examination was conducted five years ago, Xie added. “Demand for construction materials has risen rapidly because of the national policy to spur domestic demand. As well, construction materials have a very close tie with our daily life,” Zhao Xueping, deputy director of the BQTS said, emphasizing the necessity of the examination. |
