Fujian sets up 10 measures on Taiwan cooperation

Fujian vice governor Chen Hua announced 10 measures of strengthening cooperation and exchange with Taiwan to the Taiwan industrial and commercial circles at Xiamen’s Jing Hua Hotel on August 10.

The “Proposal for Favoring Fujian to Speed up its West Taiwan Strait Economic Zone” released by the State Council lists concerns of industrial and commercial circles across the strait.

Fujian officials organized a visit to Taiwan on August 9, introducing policies and information such as establishing a Fuzhou comprehensive testing area, encouraging Taiwan enterprises in Fujian to engage in large scale public construction and Fujian enterprises investing in Taiwan.

The 10 measures include: 1. Establishing a Fuzhou (Pingtan) comprehensive testing area with special regulations and a favorable policy to facilitate Taiwan goods exchange and contact.

2. Encouraging Taiwan enterprises in Fujian’s large scale public construction. The 20 engineering projects open to Taiwan are in port, public road, and industry areas.

3. Encouraging Fujian enterprises to invest in Taiwan. Fujian Newland Group, Société Générale, Xiamen Airlines and other enterprises will get the first opportunity to invest in Taiwan.

4. Encouraging Fujian citizens to travel to Taiwan through a preferential policy. Implementing the “Millions of Tourists Travelling Across the Strait” plan.

5. Opening regular sea routes between Fujian and Taiwan.

6. Establishing a cross-strait education cooperation testing area to attract Taiwan universities to run schools in cooperation with Fujian and train talents at Fujian academies.

7. Working together to propel the World Cultural Heritage application on projects like Goddess Matsu, southern music and red brick buildings.

8. Encouraging Taiwanese compatriots to study and establish businesses in Fujian. 9. Welcoming Taiwan lawyers, films, publications and culture dealers to Fujian to expand their business.

10. Supporting Taiwan industries in expanding their markets in Fujian.

Famous leaders of many Taiwan industrial and commercial organizations such as Huang Maoxiong, Zhang Pingzhao and several entrepreneurs attended the meeting, all showing great interest in the new measures.
