Updated: 2009-08-10 17:08 A grand performance for quake victims was staged on Sunday in southern China's Yao'an county, Yunnan province one month after it was rocked by a magnitude-6.0 earthquake. The quake, centered in Yao'an county, hit southwest China on July 9, killing one person, injuring at least 325 and damaging over 30,000 homes. Famous Chinese bands and singers including Shin Band, Nanhe Wendou and Liu Yuanyuan appeared at the performance, organized by China National Radio (CNR) and the Yunnan Provincial Publicity Department. The event attracted over one thousand local residents. CNR donated 5,000 sets of radios to quake victims and called on national media to "help them [quake victims] rebuild their homes". Chinese President Hu Jintao visited the quake zone and met with local people and relief troops in Guantun village, Yao'an county on July 27. |
