By Hu Meidong and Ding Xueping (China Daily Fujian Bureau)
Updated: 2009-08-06 19:02 The second Cross-Straits Agricultural Product Purchase and Ordering Fair will be held in Nan'an, Quanzhou from September 7 to September 9. The fair - with the theme of "agricultural trade, the antecessor of cross-straits cooperation" - will display the unique production, manufacturing and management features of Taiwanese farm products. Chen Rongzhou, vice mayor of Quanzhou, said both Taiwan and the west strait will benefit from the fair. "Cooperation between two sides will be largely deepened and broadened in the fair," he said. "It helps to promote structural upgrading of Taiwan agriculture in the Mainland." Large-scale purchasing agents like RT-Mart, Carrefour, Lotus Supercenter and Mega Mart have been invited to the fair to hold negotiations with Taiwanese agricultural associations and enterprises. According to Chen, agronomists and representatives from both Taiwan and Mainland China will participate in the fair's trade seminars and hold discussions concerning logistics' models and intensive processing of farm product. Covering an exhibition area of 10,000 sq m, the fair will hold 500 standard booths, 300 of which have already been booked by Taiwanese organizations. The other 200 have been left for organizations from Mainland China, with 100 booths reserved for Quanzhou. Agricultural cooperation with Taiwan is a beneficial advantage of Fujian due to its similar climate and environment. Fujian has recently approved 2,094 Taiwanese enterprises' projects with a total value of $2.62 billion, becoming Mainland China's biggest business partner with Taiwan in the agriculture sector. Shijing of Nan'an city, where the fair will be held, is only seven sea miles away from Taiwan. Last year's fair had a turn-over of 14.15 million yuan and signed 41 contracts valued at 316 million yuan. |
