DALIAN: A ground-breaking ceremony to usher in the Dalian subway project was held at the city's Harbor Plaza last Saturday.

The subway project is the first large infrastructure project after the Liaoning coastal economic belt was approved by the State Council early this month. It's also the first subway project since the foundation of the city 110 years ago, marking Dalian's entry in the subway transportation market.

With an investment of 22 billion yuan, Dalian's subway network includes a total of nine lines 262.9 kilometers-long. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012.
