SHANGHAI: Two power shows kicked off on Wednesday at the Shanghai International Exhibition Center as part of the country's effort to push forward its power industry.

The three-day EP Shanghai and Electrical Shanghai shows have attracted 400 leading suppliers from 20 countries and regions to serve more than 20,000 trade visitors from home and abroad, said Zhu Yulun, chairman of Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd.

Renowned exhibitors include ABB, Areva, Siemens, Chint, Dongfang Electric and Hyosung. About 3,000 buyers from home and abroad have registered to visit the fair for the trade business, Zhu said.

"The power shows will be a stimulus to China's construction of infrastructure facilities which is under way all over the country," he said.

Xie Zhenhua, executive vice president of China Electricity Council, said China's power industry in 2009 is undergoing a sustainable, rapid and healthy way, which will help the country converse the mode of electricity development.

"The shows have witnessed the vigorous growth of China's power industry in the past 20 years and made great contribution to its technological progress," Xie said.

Organizers will hold a series of concurrent events during the shows tailored for the industrial players, which include a report on China's electricity supply and demand in the first half of 2009 and a report on the reliability of major power generation and power T&D equipment in 2008.

Zhu said the shows have achieved a 30 per cent growth on show scale compared with their last edition. Overseas delegations from Russia and India have come to the expo for sourcing.
