SHANGHAI: China Minsheng Banking Corp, one of the largest private banks in China, is hoping to further expand its credit card business among Chinese students studying abroad.

The bank launched a campaign in Shanghai on Wednesday to award 59 top-achieving students from a high school affiliated with Fudan University, a leading school in Shanghai, through scholarships offered by the bank.

The bank's "overseas student credit card" study facilitation program is designed to encourage more Chinese students to study abroad and facilitate their financial needs.

Yang Ke, president of Minsheng's corporate credit card center, said he hoped Minsheng's overseas student card, which allows US dollar-settlement in any country around the world, will help Chinese students better facilitate their financial needs abroad.

Three graduates from the high school on Wednesday were awarded bonuses of a combined 60,000 yuan to help them with their future studies. One of the lucky students was Weng Qishao, who has already received admission from eight leading US universities, including the prestigious Yale University and the University of Chicago, prior to graduation.

The bank, which started its credit card business in 2005, has issued over 7 million credit cards so far, including those specially designed for women.
