Festival celebrated in memory of Butterfly Lovers

Wuxi Opera performers render the elegant act of Love Promise at Thatched Bridge, a segment of traditional Chinese legendary Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, or the Butterfly Lovers, during the 2009 Liang & Zhu Cultural Festival, concurrently the Butterflies-Viewing Festival, at the Shanjuan Scenic Zone, in Yixing, east China's Jiangsu Province, April 23, 2009. Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, the protagonists of the popular Chinese legendary about their tragic romance who turn into a pair of butterflies on 28th of the third month in traditional Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on the day, are worshipped in local folklore as butterfly immortal to pray for eternity of love and harmony of family life.
