Updated: 2009-04-17 17:33 The 2009 Cross-Straits Higher Vocational Education Exhibition kicked off recently at the Xiamen International Conference and Exhibition Center. The exhibition is the first of its kind in the Chinese mainland, providing an interactive platform for institutions of higher vocational education from both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan. Here they can showcase their achievements, explore cooperation opportunities, and exchange educational concepts. Officials from the Ministry of Education and institutions on both sides of the Taiwan Strait confirmed that twelve higher vocational colleges’ cooperation agreements were signed at the exhibition, including Xiamen Hua Tian Foreign Vocational College, Xiamen City Vocational College and local higher vocational colleges in Fuzhou. Of the twelve higher vocational colleges, three or four major ones were chosen as pilot projects of the cooperation program; about 300 students will be recruited for each college in the first batch cooperation program. During the three-year vocational study, students will spend one semester at Taiwan's Higher Vocational College. The tuition fee in Taiwan is about three to four times higher than in the Chinese mainland, however. China Daily Fujian Bureau |
