Dalian fireworks and lanterns festival to welcome lunar New Year

DALIAN: The coastal city in Northeast China will stage a series of activities to celebrate the Spring Festival from January 27 to February 9, said an official Wednesday at a news briefing.

Having been held successfully for 12 years, the Fireworks and Lanterns Festival is appealing to the citizens and visitors, said Lu Jiafu, director general of the municipal office of large activities.

"It has become a new tradition among the citizens to appreciate fireworks and lanterns every year,"he said.

According to Lu, fireworks and firecrackers will be set off in the Xinghai Square separately on January 27 and February 9. At the same time the Labor Park in the downtown will be decorated with more than 100,000 lanterns during the two weeks. Visitors can also enjoy folk show as well as local snacks from other Chinese provinces there. Some local scenic spots and leisure places will open to the citizens and visitors at favorable prices.
