Online posting about alleged thief stirs debate

A resident who posted a photo of an alleged thief on a website in Chongqing municipality is stirring up strong responses from readers.

A local resident posted the photo saying that the man in question is a regular pickpocket on a local bus.

He warned residents to pay more attention to the alleged thief, a man in his 50s, and included a photo. The posting was read by more than 2,000 people.

Zhang Xudong, a local police official, said such exposure couldn't be supported because it was not proven that the man was a thief.
