Gambler reports false robbery to hide loss

A man in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, was held for 10 days after he reported a false robbery to cover up his gambling loss.

Zhang was paid 40,000 yuan ($5,900) on Thursday for doing a decorating project and decided to use 10,000 yuan to gamble, which he lost.

Afraid to tell his wife, he told her he was robbed, and asked her to call the police.

During the investigation, police discovered that Zhang's story had many holes, and when they asked why the attackers left him with 30,000 yuan along and his mobile phone, he was unable to answer.
