Local police recently arrested five suspects who allegedly ran an illegal ring selling chemicals for making drugs in Longling county, Yunnan province.

Police received a report last month that a man surnamed Qi in Kunming had bought a large quantity of chemicals essential for the manufacture of drugs and was planning on selling the chemicals to another man surnamed Li in Baoshan. Cops kept tabs on the suspects round-clock and caught the two on Dec 28. They found 1.635 tons of thionyl chloride. In the following week, police caught another three suspects involved in the illegal operation.

Thionyl chloride is a raw chemical used for making drugs - 1.635 tons of it can mean an almost equivalent amount in drugs, local police said.
