Indian food festival opens today at Shanghai's Tandoor, one of the city's well-known Indian restaurants, to display India's traditional culture.

The festival, sponsored by Consulate General of India in Shanghai and the Shanghai Women's Federation, aims to let more Chinese people know more about the Indian traditional culture, said Indian Consul General Riva Ganguly Das.

An opening ceremony was held at Jinjiang Hotel where the Tandoor is located with government officials from Thailand, Japan and the Republic of Korea attending.

The festival is part of the Asian food festival launched by the federation this year. Others include festivals to introduce Korean and Thai food, said a federation spokeswoman.
