The 26th Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Fair will kick off in Kaifeng, central China’s Henan province, on October 18, according to its mayor Zhou Yizhong, who made the announcement at a news conference yesterday.

With the theme of “celebrate the Olympics and commemorate the launch of 30 decades of reform and opening-up policy”, this years’ fair aims to promote chrysanthemum culture and to further understanding of the Song culture which has been rooted in Kaifeng for about 2,700 years.

The one-month fair not only presents various chrysanthemums, but also features a string of activities which include spectacular performances, a porcelain collection show and trade fair.

Besides the fair’s main venue Longting Park, people can also go to 14 branch sites to enjoy the chrysanthemum in Kaifeng from October 18 to November 18.

Kaifeng, a city with a long history in central China’s Henan province, is one of the 24 oldest cities in China approved by China State Council. The chrysanthemum is the floral symbol of Kaifeng, and the annual Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Fair began in 1983.
