Excavation workers expose human skeletons in a
mass grave of about 100 soldiers killed during a battle between Swedish and
imperial Saxon troops during the Thirty Years' War on October 5th, 1636, near
the village of Scharfenberg, about 100 kilometres (62 miles) north of Berlin
July 24, 2007. The Thirty Years War was a series of wars in central Europe
lasting from 1618 to 1648, principally on the territory of today's Germany, and
involved most of the major European continental powers. [Reuters]
