Comment on "Recovering a long-lost social virtue" (China Daily, June 15)

People should not criticize China and ignore the many good things about Chinese society. As an expatriate living in Shanghai, I see people gather in parks every evening to socialize or exercise. I also see how involved parents are with their children.

One would be hard-pressed to see such scenes in the West, where family values have almost vanished. Although Chinese people may need to learn a few civic manners, their culture as a whole is certainly not inferior to that practiced in the West. In fact, it may be better in many ways.
