Twelve-year-old Huang Yibo, who started watching China Central Television (CCTV) news programs when he was 2 years old and began reading People's Daily regularly from the age of 7, has become a star on the Internet. His parents say he did so of his own accord. But such extraordinary departure in a child's habits is not welcome, says an article in Yangcheng Evening News. Excerpts:

Huang Yibo should be considered a "genius", especially because it is rare to find a child that is interested in news programs. Without the guidance of parents, a 2-year-old child is not likely to watch news programs. After all, news makes little sense to 2- or 3-year-olds.

It's more than likely that Huang's parents cultivated his interest, which gradually turned into a habit. We can imagine the role his parents have played in cultivating his hobbies because he is a regular reader of People's Daily and viewer of CCTV news.

Only by letting children enjoy their time in games they like can we cultivate healthy growth. Any attempt to coerce or guide them into choosing their hobbies would be against nature.
