The general belief is that people with low level of education tend to commit domestic violence, but a study conducted by Shunyi people's court in Beijing shows that many abusers are well educated. It would, however, be wrong to draw a conclusion on the basis of just one study, says an article on cnhubei.com. Excerpts:
A person is prone to commit domestic violence not because he or she is less educated but because of his/her psychology. Though the study by the Shunyi people's court shows that most of the men guilty of physically assaulting their wives were educated, it does not mean that all well-educated men share the trait.
Educated people are relatively rational and calm when dealing with problems, hence the findings of the court should not force people to arrive at hasty conclusions.
Since domestic violence is closely related to a person's overall character, we would be discriminating against education if we attributed it to only educated people.
Therefore, reports that say well-educated people are prone to commit domestic violence should be analyzed more thoroughly.
