The turmoil in Libya has prompted some vested interests to use the Internet to stir people into creating trouble on the streets of some Chinese cities. But such mischievous acts are doomed to fail because China is not a Middle East country, says an article in People's Daily Overseas Edition. Excerpts:

The past three decades have seen a majority of Chinese people succeed in their struggle for livelihood. Today, they are well aware that national stability and social harmony is the backbone of the country, and the most important factor in its march toward a better future.

Only a few people disagree with these facts and would like to see social turmoil.

The Communist Party of China and the central government are committed to good governance. China today is the world's second largest economy. A Pew Research Center poll shows that while people in most countries are dissatisfied with the direction their countries have taken, Chinese people are an exception. An overwhelming 87 percent of Chinese are satisfied with the development path the central leadership has chosen.

The central leadership adheres to the rule of law and socialist mode of development, improving democracy and making it possible for the people to participate in and discuss national affairs. Hence, there is no need for people to resort to street politics.

The central leadership has always listened to the voice of the people and tried to solve their problems.

Street politics can only lead to social instability, worsen the situation and even obstruct the development of society. So, any attempt to create a Middle East-like situation in China is doomed to failure.
