Many parents have sent their children, who will take the national college entrance exam in June, to attend supplementary classes during the Spring Festival holiday. But there is no guarantee that this will help the students perform better, says an article in Beijing News. Excerpts:
Since only four months are left before the national college entrance exam, it is normal for students to study even harder to succeed. Hence, their parents force them to attend extra classes. But such classes only put greater pressure on the students.
Striking a balance between tension and relaxation is the best way of learning. And not celebrating Spring Festival is certainly not relaxation. A hectic and tension-packed holiday will only have a devastating effect on the students.
It is parents who suggest and arrange for such classes. Parents are supposed to respect their children's wishes, and almost all children would like to rest during holidays.
Experts have been suggesting that clauses related to right to rest be added to the Law on the Protection of Minors. But such suggestions have been ignored. Hopefully, legal clauses will be issued to protect minors' rights.
